As lifelong residents of Northern California’s Mendocino County, we’ve
always benefited from the culture of sustainable living that thrives here.
Organic foods were available here long before most other parts of the country.
Growing up, we would have relatives visit from the Midwest and East Coast and
marvel at the selection of organic groceries available to us. So much so
that my Mother started sending organic food ‘care packages’ to
her family back east. These evolved into organic gift baskets after a few years,
and Mom continued this tradition for the remainder of her life.
These childhood memories continue to be the inspiration for Goodacre Organics. Every time we put together one of our wonderful organic gift baskets, or fill an order of organic coffee or organic pasta sauce, we think back to the food and family of yesterday; all the while looking forward to the memories yet to be made around the dinner table. We’re proud of our business; we’re proud of what we provide and how we provide it. Our site is 100% solar powered (no REC’s here!), we source locally whenever we can (less fuel getting it to us means less fuel getting it to you!), and of course, we use recycled shipping materials whenever possible. |

And while Goodacre Organics is a young venture, my family has been an integral part of feeding the communities in which we live for over 200 years. Beginning in 1801 when my gggg-grandfather, Samuel Goodacre, purchased a corn mill and pub near Nottingham, England, the Goodacre’s have been supplying wholesome food to our neighbors.
The mill and pub in England were operated by the family into the 1860’s when my gg-grandfather Lawrence immigrated to Victoria, British Columbia. There he operated a upscale butcher shop that provided meats and vegetables for visits of the Royal Family, and to the prominent hotels of the time, the Royal Navy, the Dominion Government, and of course, everyday families. Lawrence, and then his two sons, operated the shop until 1925.

In the 1930’s, Lawrence’s grandson, Clarence, opened his first grocery store in Smithers, B.C. “Goodacre’s” it was called, “For Good Things to Eat”. He would eventually open several more stores, serving many communities across northern BC. Most of these stores continue to be owned and operated by the family to this day.
At Goodacre Organics we are committed to honoring our family tradition of over 200 years - to be a trusted source for healthy, wholesome, and naturally produced food for our community. The only difference is that through technology, our ‘community’ has grown to encompass much more of the globe.
