Organic Herbs

We humans have used herbs and spices for thousands of years, in a wide variety of applications – from medicine to embalming, from cosmetics to fumigating. But at Goodacre Organics we’re going to stick with the culinary uses of our wonderful organic herbs and organic spices.

And if you’ve ever wondered what the difference is between an herb and a spice, it’s actually quite simple. An herb is from the leaves of a plant, and a spice is from anything other than the leaves (roots, flowers, fruits, seeds, bark). Some plants are tricky – for instance, the leaves of Coriandrum sativum are the source of cilantro (herb) while coriander (spice) is from the plant's seeds. Cool, eh?

In the organic herb category you’ll find many of our favorites. Organic basil is a must on any spice rack (even though it’s an herb!) – we use it on anything with tomatoes, it’s great on garlic bread, and try sprinkling a bit on your scrambled eggs. Yum! Organic thyme is another herb we couldn’t do without. Thyme brings sophistication to any dish.

Our organic spice collection features organic cayenne pepper and organic cumin for all of your southwest favorites, organic curry for your Indian Ocean recipes, organic paprika for poultry dishes and goulash, and organic cinnamon for the all-important Saturday morning sticky buns! Then there’s the undisputed king of spices – organic black pepper. We have it whole or course ground. We keep a large supply of both around in our house – you definitely don’t want to find yourself out!
